How this can be usb4 compatible cable if the max length for usb4 cable is 0.8m (2.6 ft), usb 3.2 gen 2 - 1m (3.28 ft)?
Answer: I'm no expert, but I suppose it's about compatibility vs. full support. A longer cable is still compatible with a USB 4-capable port because the USB-C connection is backward compatible. Data and/or power still travels over the cable, but it probably no longer meets the USB 4 spec of 20-40 Gbps because the cable is too long to meet the USB 4 spec. -
Question:
Are both connectors thunderbolt 4? I only see a 4 label on one of the connectors in the pictures above.
Answer: Read the ad, or any other ad, closely. This company is actually being honest, by saying 'compatible'. First, the connectors themselves are USB-C connectors. There are specifications for Thunderbolt 4 and for USB4, and there are certifications for Thunderbolt 4 (intel certified) and USB4 (USB-IF certified). Companies are only supposed to be allowed to use the lightning bolt with 4 symbols if they are intel certified thunderbolt 4 (lightning bolt + 3 for T3 certified), and 40Gbps USB TM for USB-IF certified USB4. This company, being honest, only has a 4 on the cable, so it is in line with its claims of being 'compatible' with Thunderbolt 4. -
