The mixing of the salt and the clay is done at our facility in Woodinville WA, where it is also processed and packaged.

    Answer: Yes you can. This is an unrefined, non-iodized sea salt, which is the type of sea salt recommended for a DIY hairspray for dreadlocks.
  • Question: Is this salt tested for radiation from Fukushima?

    Answer: According to recent information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, they state that there is no risk to the U.S. food supply (imported and domestic) from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Facility incident in 2011 and as such we do not test our products for radiation. The FDA has and is continuing to closely monitoring the situation and is working with the Japanese and other Foreign Governments to continue to ensure that imported food remains safe. FDA already has a very robust screening process for imports and has staff in place at the ports to monitor incoming products. SaltWorks will continue to stay abreast of the situation and take precautionary steps as directed by the U.S. Department of Health to protect our work-force and other resources to minimize harm and maintain quality operations.
  • Question: Why is the black coloring coming off the salt?

    Answer: The black color of this salt comes from the addition of activated charcoal. The salt grains are coated in the charcoal, but the charcoal is not a natural property of the salt, so it does separate.
  • Question: Has anyone used this in their garden to balance out the nutrition?

    Answer: We recommend using Ultra Epsom salt in the garden instead of a sodium chloride salt. Too much salt in soil can be harmful to plants, but Ultra Epsom salt contains only magnesium and sulfur, which are essential nutrients for plants.
  • Question: Why is this salt so expensive?

    Answer: Probably because it is imported from the Mediteranean...
