The system rest on the fire box and has a distance of little over 5 inches to the top grate. The product is highly compatible with many large kamado style grills, such as Primo Round Kamado Style Grill, Vision Large Grill, and Large BGE. However, it will not fit with some grills such as the Louisiana K24 and XL Big Green Egg. The lack of directions requires experimentation, but the product is relatively easy to use and has excellent clearances.
