Question:
When I put on DC, the numbers go up and down and won't go to 0.00. What should I do?
Answer: Troubleshooting may help:n1. When the automatic range multimeter is turned on, there will be digital jitter in the AC DC gear (does not zeroing), but it will not affect the measurement. When you apply the multimeter to test, it starts to read the real value.n2. When turning on the meter and move the dial to ohms, it reads of OL (default), it's normal. In this case, it means that Infinity of resistance. When you apply the multimeter to test resistance of something, it starts to read the real resistance. Please don't worry. There is no need to reset it. You just measure your resistor; it will give the right reading (ignore the reading of OL). -
Question:
Can I calibrate the device to ensure continued precision or do I have to send it back to the manufacturer for calibration?
Answer: As far as I know, there is no way for user calibration. -
Question:
Owner's Manual totally useless! Print is so small a magnifying glass is no help. What is the hotlink to a larger print manual online?
Answer: When you print from PDF just use the option FIT under size and it will use the entire page area for the print of the document. -
Question:
Will this multimeter be able to handle measurements associated with home appliances, such as a stove/oven?
Answer: Although it claims to be rated for line voltages, due to the use of smaller fuses and minimal accepted levels of protection in the internals, I would consider a name brand for common line usage. However, if you are testing to see if your home stove is receiving power or a control module is passing power by ONLY measuring voltage (NEVER MEASURE THOSE 50A APPLIANCES WITH THIS METER IN CURRENT), you can get away with it. But don't do it without a friend to drive you if you get blown across the room or ANYTHING felt through your body. Honestly, I recommend getting a pro to look at anything using 240V in the USA as electrical codes are a bit too lax here. -
Question:
Once the meter is set to ohm, how do I set it to 200 ohm, 2k ohm, etc., or on AC current to 200V or 600V?
Answer: This meter is auto-ranging, which means the meter automatically selects the range for you (volts, ohms, capacitance). You don't need to select these ranges. The ammeter function does require you to select the right range or you could damage the meter or blow a fuse. -
Question:
I have the xl830l model. When I test for continuity, the meter works, but I have never heard the buzzer sound. Did I turn the buzzer off by mistake?
Answer: Set the dial to the position just left of top center. You should see OL on the screen and a Sound Icon at the top of the screen that looks like the antenna bars on a smartphone. Connect and touch the leads. You should see the screen change to 00.0 and hear the tone. If the Sound Icon is not showing on the screen, then push the 'FUNC' once to turn it on. Push again to turn off. -
Question:
How can I test my car charging system with this multimeter?
Answer: I'm far from being well-versed in the use of this thing, but I would imagine you would dial it into the 12 volt DC range and connect the black end to the negative post of the battery and the red tip to the positive post of the battery. See if the meter reads at least 12 volts. With the car running, typically the readings will be slightly above 12 volts. I'm sure there is a YouTube site with much more explanation than my rambling. -
Question:
What setting checks the microwave micro door switches?
Answer: Use the 'ohms' or resistance function with your leads plugged into the COM and the multimeasurement ports. If the switch is good, you should read a short when the actuator is pressed and open when released. Any other measurement is a reason to believe the switch is questionable.
