It can be glued or nailed onto the post and is painted black, though it can be painted over with a paint that adheres to plastic. The inside dimension of the cap measures 5-5/8" x 5-5/8". The caps provide great protection for fence posts from water and sun damage. While some reviewers had trouble fitting the caps onto their 6x6 posts, others found the fit to be good.
