The tray folds up for storage and can hold items in place such as an iPad or art supplies in its side pockets. There is a mesh pocket on the side that can hold paper, as well as another zipper pocket. It is not best used for lap sitting. The dimensions of the tray part are 16" wide and 12" deep. Although some customers had some issues with the product's quality, most customers loved the product and found it very helpful during road trips.
